ENERGY SAVINGS FEASIBILITY STUDY – MCDONALDS

This project was commissioned under the sponsor ship   of USAID’s ECO Project.Electric power was the major energy used by the complex. The power supply to the outlets was by Delhi Vidyut Board and Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Board (UPSEB).
The annual electricity bills of the outlets were about Rs 10.96 million.

The study has identified measures to save 31.81 lakhs per year after an initial investment of 34,57 lakhs. The findings of the study have been under implementation over the past 6 months and we have implemented most of the energy efficiency measures that do not involve any investment. We are currently implementing the measures involving investments.”

Pilot Project aimed at finding a viable solution to the power problems faced by industries with furnaces

Solar furnaces are structures that capture sunlight to produce very high temperatures that can be used for industrial purposes. This is done with a curved mirror (or an array of mirrors) that acts as a parabolic reflector (device used to collect or project energy such as light, sound, or radio waves), concentrating light onto a focal point. The temperature at the focal point may reach 3,500 °C (6,330 °F), and this heat can be used to generate electricity, melt steel, and make hydrogen fuel or nano materials.

Solar Furnaces at Plataforma Solar de Almeria

SSAEL along with STA(Solar Technology Advisers)Spain are working on a  hybrid furnace with Swarg Vatika Crematorium, Hyderabad. The design is based on the solar direct furnaces developed at PSA (Plataforma Solar De  Almeria) which have generated over 3000 °C and tested over the years. SSAEL and STA are planning to retrofit the existing LPG and Biomass furnaces at Swarg Vatika to use concentrated solar power to maintain the furnace temperature and reduce fuel consumption.

Solar furnaces can easily be retrofitted to  existing industrial furnaces and result in huge savings on electricity charges, reduce fuel consumption and to some extent mitigate the woes of power outages and shortages that affect the efficiency of these industries.

A smart solution to improve the economics of struggling Biomass Power Projects

While traditional solar power facilities need to employ expensive energy storage techniques to ensure continuous operation in all weather conditions, the biomass hybrid configuration has eliminated that need. Whenever there is not enough direct sunlight to generate solar power, biomass power generation capacity can be brought online, enabling the continuous production of electricity, even at night, when the sun isn’t shining.

There are 300 Biomass Power projects in India ranging from 3 MW to 25 MW which have been either shut down or operating partially on account of shortage of biomass. The economics of these biomass plants can be improved with increased capacity utilisation factor by adding CSP power through solar steam to the existing power block.

 csp biomass

SERVERT et al

CSP-biomass hybrids have potential as an alternative to thermal energy storage in locations where long hours of power generation are required, and to ensure consistency of energy supply for industrial processes and power generation. Hybridisation can reduce CST cost by making greater use turbine and generator plant which is a large portion of CST plant cost.

A path breaking approach to sustainable urban and rural transportation

nissansolarcar  solarbus solarcycle eco free cab480x320

Electric Bikes and Cars – are the Future of Transportation

Solar Power for Mobility is Sustainable, displaces fossil fuels and abates pollution.

Our hypothesis is that India can target more than 100GW solar easily if solar isused for charging electric vehicles.

Displacing petrol with solar is important as India imports 80%of its oil and

uses 50% of the export earnings for oil imports! We should reduce dependency

on imported fossil fuels for transportation and decrease the urban air pollution

by encouraging the use of solar power for mobility (electric cars, bikes and bicylces).

We should plan solar charging stations in ‘smart cities’ to begin with, and in

rural areas and along the highways in due course.

this
MNRE can initiate a new policy to reduce dependency on imported fossil fuels for transportation and reduce urban air pollution by encouraging the use of solar power for mobility (electric cars, bikes and bicylces) through solar charging stations in 'smart cities' to begin with, and in rural areas and along the highways in due course.
Multiple stakeholders (car manufacturers, electric scooter and bicyle manufacturers, battery manufacturers, solar EPC companies and solar IPPs, oil companies, municipal corporations etc) have to come together to create the infrastructure and eco system of products and services needed for charging electric vehicles with solar power. We can plan capacity addition in 100s of GW by harnessing solar for charging electric vehicles besides reducing need for oil imports and avoiding urban air pollution.
